It was announced in Mexico City on August 21, 2013 by President Enrique Peña Nieto that private companies plan to invest $8.6 billion US dollars in tourism projects throughout the country. The investments, said Nieto would focus on the construction of new hotels, renovation of older ones, while also giving other public spaces their own much-needed face-lift.

AirTran Arways (owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines) announced a new nonstop flight between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and San Jose del Cabo International Airport starting June 1st, 2013.
The flight is scheduled to depart Austin at 11:25 a.m. and arrive at San Jose del Cabo at 12:45 p.m. Returning flights will depart from San Jose del Cabo at 1:35 p.m. and arrive at Austin at 4:55 p.m. local times.
