What Was The CNTE Teachers Protests in Los Cabos All About?

Los Cabos teachers participated in a nationwide 24-hour work stoppage in protest of new education reform laws passed by the Federal Government of Mexico. These new laws will require teachers to pass an evaluation to maintain their teaching positions. On Wednesday morning, mere hours after the new law was passed by the Senate, hundreds of pre-school, primary school and secondary school teachers assembled at the Los Cabos International Airport. Traffic and pedestrian access to Terminal 1 was disrupted for approximately one and one half hours. During a fifteen minute period when an entrance to the road leading to the terminal was completely blocked, some tourists had to walk with their luggage. Martín Pablo Zazueta, Director of the Los Cabos International Airport, reported in a live interview on the Cabo Mil radio station that operation of the airport was never affected. “There were no cancellations or delays, but what it did without a doubt was affect the image of Los Cabos,” stated Zazueta.
