Things To Do In Cabo

Shopping Mexican Style

Shopping in the local stores and markets of Los Cabos is a real experience!

Find A Hotel in Los Cabos

Fantastic deals on hotels in Los Cabos with our booking partners. Amazing discounts on over 100 properties, instant reservation and user reviews/ratings to guarantee you get the hotel you want, when you want it. In many cases you PAY NOTHING now...check it out here!

Most people who come here become acquainted pretty quickly with the small trinket shops and flea-market stalls that sell all kinds of Mexican handicrafts; including blankets, pottery, masks, silver jewelry, hats and much more.

The fact is that in all of these small stores the price is far from what you may see on the sticker…if there is one! The ability to haggle is expected, if no encouraged.

This is not the case in the fashionable malls of course and it is also not acceptable at the grocery store. But in the street stores and vendors at the open air market you can feel free to have a bit of fun.

Haggling should be looked at as part of your vacation fun and shouldn’t stress you out. These local guys do have a high margin on their goods so a substantial “discount” usually only reflects a fair price!

Especially those beach vendors that just keep coming at you on Medano Beach. They can really cut their price, as they pay no rent or permit fees at all. These are not the vendors to buy silver from as the “made In Mexico” and “521 silver stamps” are commonly as fake as the “Rolex” watches sold in the street. The best place to purchase silver is in the true stores with clean displays and a scale to show you the quality.

So have fun but don’t carry it too far: there is no need to become offensive or act cheap. Remember most likely the pesos you are saving are not of nearly as much value to you as they are to the vendor.

There is however no reason to feel sorry for them and just pay the first price given. They really do put the prices up expecting at least a little discussion concerning price.

It's all part of the Los Cabos experience - enjoy it!
