Visit La Ventana & Jacques Cousteau Island

A totally awesome place to visit is the kitesurfing beach and waters of La Ventana. Thanks to the area’s steady winds from November to March, and the side shore winds, La Ventana’s popularity continues to grow while also remaining an area free of thrill-seeking crowds. Kitesurfing is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world, once you see the guys in action you’ll know why!

The water temperature at La Ventana is around 70 degrees, but full wetsuits are always recommended (3/2 or 4/3). At La Ventana, there are three launching areas; Baja Joe’s, La Ventana main camp ground in front of the Kitemasters kiteschool, and the spot known as Hot Springs.

Kitemasters is one of two schools in the area, recognized by the International Kiteboarding Organization. They both offer lessons to beginning, intermediate, and advanced kiteboarders in English, Spanish, and French. www.kitemasters.com  (612) 156 6769.

Many Kiteboarding Schools can be found around La Ventana, if you just drive through the main road you’ll surely see a couple of them. Sail repairs are also available at Rico Sail Repair Shop (cell phone # 612-155-8086).

Just about 13km from La Ventana you’ll find the Jacques Cousteau island, formerly known as Isla Cerralvo, which is clearly visible from the beach. It is 18 miles long with a land area of 136.498 km² (52.702 sq mi), and is the ninth-largest island in Mexico.
