NFL Football in Cabo: Where to Watch Sunday Games and Monday Night Football
The start of the NFL season is just around the corner. If you’re an NFL junkie or a fantasy football fanatic you’re surely salivating already. Mexico may be the land of futbol (that’s soccer for those of you north of the border) but that doesn’t mean they don’t love their futbol Americano too. Besides, Cabo is a vacation destination. Bars and restaurants know you need your football fix. So if you’re the fanatic described above or if you just don’t want to miss your team play on Sunday, it’s of vital importance to know where to catch the big game. Yes ladies, even while on vacation in Cabo. Our apologies to all the wives and girlfriends, unless of course you’re tracking your fantasy team too!
If you don’t want to stray far from the beach and your resort, make sure you’re aware of their capabilities well in advance of game time. Some resorts have multiple games while others have limited feeds, Spanish-only broadcasts or not enough televisions for more than a game or two. If you’ve been waiting all summer for the San Diego Chargers game you certainly don’t want to get stuck watching the Raiders play the Jets. (Sorry Oakland and New York fans, we’re not trying to pick on you!)
Decided to head into town on Sunday? Unless there’s a conflicting Chivas vs. America futbol match, almost all bars and restaurants will have at least one NFL game on, but what’s most important is to make sure you find your game or you’re right back where you started.
Locations in downtown Cabo San Lucas with multiple TVs and satellite feeds - therefore many different games - include Cabo Cantina, Cabo Blue and Rockstone. Mango Deck on Medano beach has multiple games, though possibly not all. Mango Cantina on the marina also has Sunday NFL options. In the Puerto Paraiso Mall in Cabo you will find that Baja Brewing Company and the Harley Davidson Bar and Grill will have football on, though not every game. Caliente Sports Book is also in the mall. It’s not a bar or restaurant, but you can place bets and play slots while you watch all the games. Ramuri brew pub and restaurant has plenty of HD screens upstairs. Though maybe we shouldn’t mention it, many of the “gentlemen’s clubs” have the games on too.
Okay. So now that we’ve covered where to go to get your game on each Sunday, what about Monday Night Football? There’s only one game. You can watch that anywhere, you say? That may be the case, but many feel that where you watch the game makes all the difference. After all, casual fans and even many non-fans enjoy a night out for MNF in a fun environment.
We did an informal poll of Cabo locals and experienced Cabo devotees and here’s what we came up with. There were fewer respondents providing San Jose spots, with Shooter’s the unofficial “winner”. However, many respondents chimed in with their favorite Cabo San Lucas spot. The unofficial “winners” of this quite informal poll were Rockstone, Sammy G’s and Cabo Blue. Honorable Mentions included Baja Cantina and Mango Cantina on the marina, Baja Brewing Company in the mall, Desperado’s and Tanga Tanga in town, and Latitude 22 Roadhouse on the corridor.
If all else fails, simply stroll through town or the marina and find a place you like that has your game on, or ask the waiter if he can change the channel. You might be pleasantly surprised.
So whether you’re a casual fan or you bleed team colors; whether you want to watch Peyton work for another shot at the Super Bowl, you’re curious if Johnny Football can cut it post-college or you just need to know how many points your fantasy team scored, rest assured. Cabo’s got you covered. So, like Hank Williams Jr. asks in the song: Are you ready for some football?!
