Finally. Something is being
done.
After years of bitter complaints
by both tourists and locals, it looks like there will be a stop to the spiralling costs of private ambulances.
By the end of the year, a
scheme, very similar to one already being run in La Paz, will be implemented. Under
this scheme all ambulances will be obliged to display a civil protection plate -so any irregular operators can be easily
spotted. Rates will be authorised based on mileage. And each ambulance will
only be able to operate in assigned areas.
The basic idea is to halt the astronomical
charges that people (mostly foreign tourists) are being hit with . And to prevent an excess number of
ambulances arriving at the scenes on an accident, and competing for business on price.
Sounds a whole lot better.
