Cost controls for Ambulances in Cabo

Date Published:

New scheme will regulate the spiralling costs of private ambulances in Cabo...

Finally. Something is being done.

After years of bitter complaints by both tourists and locals, it looks like there will be a stop to the spiralling costs of private ambulances.

By the end of the year, a scheme, very similar to one already being run in La Paz, will be implemented. Under this scheme all ambulances will be obliged to display a civil protection plate -so any irregular operators can be easily spotted. Rates will be authorised based on mileage. And each ambulance will only be able to operate in assigned areas.

The basic idea is to halt the astronomical charges that people (mostly foreign tourists) are being hit with . And to prevent an excess number of ambulances arriving at the scenes on an accident, and competing for business on price.

Sounds a whole lot better.

Do you know what to do if you need an ambulance in Cabo? Is your medical insurance up to date? Are you covered when in Mexico?
