Despite Hurricane Odile, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament has kicked off for the 2014’s 16th-annual event. A kickoff party and captains meeting at the Playa Grande Resort & Grand Hotel’s got things going Tuesday evening October 14th.
Teams received welcome gifts and door prizes including Steve Goione artwork, Penn reels, Tycoon Tackle rods, AFTCO gear, Wiley X eyewear, Berkely line, Aribe Fishing reels, Costa Sunglasses, Cabo Cigars, Accurate Fishing Products reels, and tournament backpack, shirts, hats and visors. The tournament participants are among the first to visit Cabo San Lucas since the Hurricane Odile devastated the town, and cheers from the crowd as the tournament announced “Los Cabos is Unstoppable” reinforced that Los Cabos is definitely open for business.
The LCBT fishing began yesterday morning October 15th as Rubén Reachi Lugo, Secretary of Tourism for Baja California Sur, shot the flare at 7:30 a.m., signaling the official start of Los Cabos’ fall tournament season.
Fishing has been fantastic, so the teams were eager and excited to get underway and on the first day, several blue and striped marlin were released and one tuna was boated.
Weigh-in of fish and billfish release video check-in will take place during the three days of fishing — October 15-17, 2014) — at the IGY Marina Cabos San Lucas weigh gantry and office. Spectators are welcome for the weigh-ins.
The Los Cabos Billfish Tournament gala awards banquet and celebration takes place Saturday evening on the Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa’s beachside terrace.
