The first of the new United Airlines flights from Washington DC to San Jose International that we reported on previously arrived on Saturday, March 7. The inaugural flight carried approximately 200 passengers was met by a warm, welcoming reception attended by businessmen and tourism representatives including the Secretary of Tourism for the state of Baja California Sur, Ruben Reachi.
This new route will run until early May and is sure to be popular during holiday season. Flights to Baja California Sur from Houston, Los Angeles, Denver, NY (Newark), Chicago and San Francisco already bring an average of 400,000 visitors per year. The new Washington flight is expected to become the fourth airline biggest carrier of visitors to the area.
Back in July 2014, Secretary Reachi said during a press conference, "Without doubt this is a great achievement for the state government of Baja California Sur, Grupo Aeropuerto del Pacifico and the Los Cabos Association of Hotels and Timeshare Developers. Congratulations to BCS and Los Cabos! Let's try for even more."
It appears that more could well be on the way, as officials have said that air tourism is estimated to grow again by approximately 10% and that as a destination resort, Cabo could fulfil more than 90% of available accommodation.
