Chileno, Palmilla and Santa Maria beaches have been
nominated to receive the distinctive Blue Flag certification for excellence in
management and environmental considerations.
The Blue Flag is a voluntary eco-label awarded to more than
4000 beaches and marinas in 49 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco,
Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean.
The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development of
beaches and marinas through strict criteria dealing with Water Quality,
Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management, and Safety
and Other Services.
Undersecretary of Quality and Regulation of the Ministry of
Tourism (Tourism Ministry ), Francisco Peña Maass , explained in a statement
that awards as distinctive as Blue Flag are important tools that help enhance
and ensure the quality of Mexican beaches.
