Cabo Pulmo Director assures tourists that there have been no previous shark attacks on people...
To dispel tourist
fears after the tragic death last weekend, of 32-year-old Mexican tourist, Cabo
Pulmo Director insists there is no previous record in the national park of
sharks attacking humans. And people should not be afraid to visit as planned.
He highlighted
the fact that Cabo Pulmo receives up to 30 000 visitors a year – 6000 visitors
this Easter alone– and there have never been any shark biting incidents. And this
is despite fact that the numbers of sharks have increased significantly since
1995 when the park opened.
Sharks are
one of the Cabo Pulmo’s key attractions, as 12 species visit throughout the year.
And many tourists come specifically to do swimming with sharks.
The cause of
death has not yet been officially confirmed. But it has been reported that the most
likely cause of death was drowning. And that shark bites were sustained after
death.
Cabo Pulmo National Park is located just 60 miles north of Los Cabos.
Known as the jewel of the East Cape region of Baja California Sur, stretches five miles from the northernmost tip, Pulmo Point, to the southernmost tip, Los Frailes.
Surrounded by undeveloped desert and a stunning mountain range, the pristine beaches of Cabo Pulmo Park give way to a shallow bay that cradles one of the three living reefs (and the only hard coral reef) in all of North America.
