Hurricane Odile Expected to Become Major Hurricane, Will Pass Closer to Cabo than Previously Expected
Tropical Storm Odile became Hurricane Odile just hours ago, but the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is prediciting it will intensify rapidly and may reach Major Hurricane status (Category 3 or above) during the day. Predications then call for slight weakening as Odile passes through the cold wake of Hurricane Norbert.
The storm track guidance has been shifted further east. Hurricane Odile will pass closer to Cabo than previously predicted (see storm track projection below).
Odile will also absorb a tropical depression that is approaching its path. Several media outlets and social media networks in the LosCabos area are calling this a Super-Hurricane. A quick search of google reveals that there is no such thing, other than a theoretical cataclismic hurricane if ocean waters were ever to increase in temperature by more than 25 degrees Fahrenheit . Regardless, this storm should not be taken lightly. The NHC is still uncertain of the exact reach of the wind and rain acompanying the storm, which means Cabo may be significantly affected.
The Mexican Government has issued a Tropical Storm Watch and Hurricane Warning for Los Cabos and the souther Baja peninsula. A Hurricane Warning may be issued later tonight.
The storm may begin affecting the Los Cabos area within the next 24 hours, definitely within 36 hours.
