The first tuna was weighed in the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot at
just before 2.30pm today. By default that fish becomes the tournament leader.
The team, "Wicked Pissah" from Maine with anglers Thomas Quimby, Eric Surette and Partick Perseille, fished aboard Pisces Rebecca and boated
the fish on the Pacific side. At weigh in the fish hit the scales at just over
124lbs – which is a lot of tuna!
Pat McDonell interviewed the team who didn’t even realize
that they had entered the $500 Tuna stake in the contest and found that not
only was it their first time in the tournament, this was the first time they
had ever fished for tuna!
“I will never fish in Cabo unless I am on that boat!” yelled
the team leader to a grinning crew.
The fishing has been very good and many fish were brought in over 100lbs making it a very impressive start to the tournament. The fish of the day was brought in by Don Ameche and weighed an astonishing 293lbs making it one of the heaviest tuna ever caught in the tournament.
In all, 133 boats competed today and will again tomorrow in this great fun event.
Come on down to the marina and see the fish being brought in between 4 and 6pm.
If you would like to go on the start boat tomorrow be at the dock (the Marina store dock near the weigh station for the tournament) before 6am. There is a $20 cover and ALL of that money goes to local charities.
It is a spectacular start to your day - guaranteed!
