This year’s Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament was won by Team “America”
with a magnificent 289lb yellow tuna that brought them $180 000 dollars in
prize money.
But it was the team with the second biggest fish – a 274 lb
tuna - that went home with the most
money (as they had entered more categories). A massive $331 950 went to Reel Quest - breaking the record of the most money ever won
by any team.
This was the eighteenth year of the tournament which is
the biggest tuna tournament in the word, with 168 boats and 612 anglers who
came from far and wide. This year welcomed the first angler from Africa.
Our friends over at Pisces have done a fabulous report on
the whole tournament with full details of all the winners.
The tournament is hugely important event for the sport
fishing world and for Los Cabos. It brings in lots of fishermen, lots of local business
for Cabo, and most importantly it also raises loads of money for local charity.
This year $40 000 dollars was collected for the Smiles
International Foundation – which will now provide free cleft lip surgery to
adults and kids in the Los Cabos area.
