Workers and staff at the One & Only Palmilla resort,
dissatisfied with the uncertainty that has dogged the company with regard to
their wages and the cancellation of work due to Hurricane Odile which hit
mid-September, have now taken matters into their own hands it would appear and have
arrived en masse at the site led by the leader of the National Union of
Construction Workers in the state, Alberto Renteria Santana. Their intention
appears to be to enter by force in order to take control of the premises.
The entrances to the Hotel has allegedly been shackled by
security guards in order to prevent entry by the disgruntled employees.
The situation has become tense because of the management of
the consortium apparently have not engaged in meaningful dialogue with the
protesters, who continue to demand the
presence of the labor authority of the state government.
A few moments ago, according to our sources, the order was
given to forcibly enter the premises of the One & Only Palmilla Resort, despite
the security guards at the main entrances.
There is a lot of tension in the situation, however no violent
incidents have been reported.
Due to the blockade it was difficult even for local
residents who live adjacent to the resort to get access.
The One & Only Palmilla is one of the key resorts on the Corridor and many regulars are anxiously awaiting its opening which was scheduled for spring next year.
So far there has been no official comment from the Palmilla management.
We are trying to verify all of this and will bring more when we get more.
