Whale watching increases in Cabo

Date Published:

The Ministry of Tourism in BCS has reported an incredible 13% increase in whale watching tourism across BCS this year. In particular tourist numbers have increased most in Comondu.

And the increase in whale numbers are just as encouraging. Luis Genaro Ruiz Hernandez, State Tourism Minister, reports that the over 4000 whales have been counted in the Port of Lopez Mateo alone. Far exceeding the number expected.

“This gives us confidence that the whales are returning year after year to our state. And this means we need to make sure our visitors also keep coming back. This year Laguna San Ignacio and Laguna Ojo del Liebre were well attended by both national and international tourists.”

He confirms that they will continue to work hand in hand with the government, tourist agencies, and conservation organisations to ensure the safety and continuance of the whales whilst driving the economic benefits of tourism for the state.
