Hurricane Vance produced an amazing sunset as it passed to the south ensuring the Tuna Jackpot could go ahead as promised
The 16th annual Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament kicked off
today in fine style with a band on the marina as registration took place. With Hurricane
Vance not posing any threat thanks to a vertical shear that pushed it away from
the tip of Baja, the tournament is all set to go for the first shotgun start
tomorrow morning November 6th.
At the staff and sponsor party, hosted by Pisces
Sportfishing on the balcony above their offices on the malecón overlooking the
IGY Marina, Tracy Ehrenberg and her staff’s customary meticulous attention to
detail was in evidence to the 100 sponsors, staff and supporters attending.
Mid-evening Pat McDonell, Director, welcomed the gathering
and gleefully announced the demise of “Vance” much to the delight of the crowd.
On a more serious note he continued, “Since our arrival,
Rebecca (Becca) Ehrenberg has escorted us on a tour of some of the Colonias of
Cabo. It’s hard to describe the destruction and devastation caused by Hurricane
Odile. Becca and her team’s efforts are impressive. They have constructed
Community Kitchens strategically placed to serve the families living in the
different areas.”
“While our event is not a charity event, we believe that it
is important to support Becca’s efforts as well as pledge to fund the
construction of fifteen (15) homes constructed of concrete with the funds
raised in the charity segments of this year’s tournament.”
Ten teams signed up for the Cabo Charter Boat Program free
entry drawings yesterday at the Marlin sculpture. The ten teams were linked up
with ten charter boats in a drawing that went flawlessly. All are ready to fish
hard.
In closing McDonell reminded everyone that the tournament’s
motto was “Fish Hard and Party Harder” and he expected everyone to live up to
it!
