The Todos Santos Music Festival 2013

Date Published:
Initially founded as a Mission in 1724, Todos Santos has undergone a radical change from its sugar cane producing origins; becoming a haven for artists, craftsman, travelers, surfers and musicians. The city's warm climate and friendly hospitality are cause for the much welcomed growth, which now includes a yearly Art and Film Festivals as well as this new years second annual 2013 Todos Santos Music Festival, spearheaded by REM guitarist, Peter Buck which takes place from January 10-26. Todos Santos used to be a tiny, soft, whisper of a village. A once quiet and little known town, which the Government of Mexico recently designated as one of the country's magical cities, (Pueblo Magico). A distinction of utmost economic importance and one that has accelerated the town's growth and recognition. The Hotel California is undoubtedly, this coastal oasis' most famous restaurant and bar, located a short 40 minute drive along the Pacific Ocean from Cabo San Lucas in one direction and La Paz in the other. ''One of the things I like about Todos Santos is it's a place where people like to do things. I just got an amazing vibe about the town. Every street I walk down, I like. I like the people, and being from Seattle, I like the weather. I don't ever want to be cold again. I come down here to recharge. The beaches are great, I swim. We love snorkeling. Anything that has to do with being out in the sun is nice. Sometimes it can be just to sit out by the pool and drink a beer.'' said Peter Buck when discussing his passion for this once sleepy fishing village, adding that. ''One of the things I'm trying to do with the Todos Santos Music Festival, as well as raise money for education, is to kind of bring together young Mexican bands, my friends who are generally a little bit older and maybe some young American bands, and try to introduce it so that the whole town can appreciate what's going on'' This years' 2013 line up includes 10 full nights of musical entertainment by English guitar legend Robyn Hitchcock, Scott McCaughy's The Minus 5 Band, along with American Steve Wynn and the Baseball Project. Others performing at the 3 major venues will be a 90's alternative rock band, The Posies, Chuck Prophet's Mission Express and Mexico's rising pop band, Torreblanca. The Hotel California's patio will be the major location for most of the Music Fest headline entertainment, which was created by Buck to help benefit the Palapa Society of Todos Santos, a non profit community service organization.
