No, it’s not a line from the movie about Hobbits; it’s the Los Barriles' Annual Kiteboarding And Windsurfing Competition.
Winter brings the strong El Norte blowing for hundreds of
miles down the Sea of Cortez and creating ideal wind and kite surfing
conditions all along the Baja coastline. January sees the peak of the season
when the world's best wind and kite surfers congregate in the East Cape town of
Los Barriles. Since 2010, this normally sleepy town has hosted the Lord of the
Wind Showdown and each year it has grown in popularity and intensity.
This year's Lord of the Wind is scheduled for January 15-18,
2015 and The Rotary Club of Los Barriles is again the organizing body of this
overall community event. With major support from the BCS Tourism board, Annex
Brands and others this four day event will again showcase some of the world’s
best. Proceeds will be used for ongoing and new Rotary projects.
The world's fastest wind and water riders will compete for
Baja's most exalted title, The Lord of the Wind in an exciting showdown event
not to be missed and what better excuse to visit the fabulous East Cape!
