As forecast yesterday tropical storm Javier continues to
form and move closer to Cabo.
The storm began as an area of instability off the coast
of Colima, and has formed into a tropical depression named Javier. It is
expected to intensify in the coming hours, gradually whipping itself up into
the category of a tropical storm. It will be the first to hit Baja California
Sur this year.
By Monday evening the Met office have forecast that Javier
will be just 150km southeast of Cabo and 300km from La Paz. Causing moderate to
serious rain in both destinations. Similarly, over the next few days it will cause rain throughout the 5
municipalities of the state. And on the morning of August 11, Javier will move through
the Bay of San Juan Batista, passing 75km northwest of Santa Rosali before
blowing itself out.
Winds are likely to be pretty fierce in Cabo from Mon to
Thurs with estimated speeds of 63-119km per hour (39-74 miles per hour).
So Cabo’s
Harbour Master is taking no chances – the port will be closed from 17.00 today
(Sun) for all small boats. And all nautical and water activities for tourists
will be suspended. Any boats moored in the
harbor need to be properly prepared for the onslaught of heavy rain and winds.
Everyone is urged to be extra vigilant - stay off the beaches,
stay out of the water and pay close attention to all weather warnings.
We will keep you updated as the storm progresses.
