Southwest Airlines will fly the first of their signature planes to Cabo (San Jose del Cabo International Airport) this coming Sunday, August 10, 2014. The flight will leave from the John Wayne airport in Orange County, CA.
Southwest Airlines, which acquired Air Tran Airways in 2011, has converted 21 of 52 Air Tran Airways 737s to their signature blue Southwest jets . These planes will now hold 6 more passengers for a total of 143 seats. The remaining 31 jets will be converted this year and then the Air Tran name will be retired. Air Tran was flying from John Wayne to Cabo once daily, twice in peak season, prior to the acquisition.
Southwest will also offer Saturday-only flights from Denver to Cabo beginning October 11, 2014.
