Looking to Enjoy an Old Mexican Tradition? The San Jose del Cabo Festival 2013 is Almost Here

Date Published:
Friday, March 8 on the Mexican calendar of saints is el dia de San Jose, meaning the day of St. Joseph. On that date, the city of San Jose del Cabo begins the special holiday celebration of their patron saint, which has been known yearly as Fiestas de Marzo (Parties of March) or San Jose del Cabo Festival. This year, the party in downtown San Jose del Cabo, begins March 10 and ends on Sunday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day. What separates San Jose del Cabo from its more popular neighbor of Cabo San Lucas, is the city's central plaza which features the town's historic Catholic Church and the area in front; which is host to the many year round festivals and events that transpire within this wonderful community. As usual, there will be vendors that encompass the popular street fair everywhere in the downtown area. There will also be the traditional carnival rides, a non-traditional cattle exposition and a local favorite rodeo. Vendors will be selling everything from arts and crafts, inexpensive toys and affordable trinkets, Mexican food, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The festival's 7 nights will feature local musicians playing in the town square's open stage, free of charge. Every day of the March event will be filled with locals and tourists, enjoying a pretty good time, throughout the colonial structures and streets that line the hub of this friendly town. ''I have been to the Festival many times. It is really a lot of fun. Everyone seems so happy. They have music playing and people dancing and the carnival is somewhat like walking back in time, as some of the rides look like they came from a county fair of the 1960's,'' said El Jefe on tripadvisor. The community travel website, where people comment and give advice on all things and places related to travel. ''Some of the best tamales I have ever had I got from a vendor at last year's festival,'' added El Jefe. ''It's just a fun thing to do.''
