It appears that yet another hotel group is still suffering
some lingering effects from Hurricane Odile. Secrets Resorts & Spas have
announced that Secrets Marquis Los Cabos closed since Hurricane Odile damaged
it in September, have distanced themselves from the ”Secrets” brand.
AMResorts, operator of the Secrets brand, said that its Los
Cabos partner, KM Promotions, “unexpectedly notified” AMResorts on Nov. 18 of thier
decision to drop the brand.
“AMResorts initiated action to resolve the matter,” the
company said in a statement. “We are currently in discussion with KM Promotions
regarding the terms of the contract and legal action is underway.”
Meanwhile, AMResorts said guests who wish to cancel their
reservation may do so without penalty, or rebook at another AMResorts property
at the rate they paid.
AMResorts advised guests to call their agent to make other
arrangements, or to contact Secrets at info@secretsresorts.com or (866)
467-3273 if they booked direct.
The 235-room resort, which had been part of the Secrets
chain since November 2011, is now known as the Marquis Los Cabos.
According to their Facebook page, the resort was originally
supposed to reopen on Oct. 15, but the date later was changed to Dec. 20, now
it is simply “closed until further notice.”
Some Facebook commenters have expressed confusion and
irritation, writing that they were unable to reach Secrets on the phone and
that emails had been ignored.
This dispute follows the problems experienced and reported
on here with Capella Pedregal and illustrates that whilst much of Cabo is back
on its feet and fully functioning, some lingering problems remain.
