Cabo saw a massive 60% decrease in
road accidents over the Easter week.
A specially trained team, the Green Angels - covered an
area of over 24, 000km. Providing assistance to 453 vehicles, carrying 1698 tourist
drivers and passengers.
The services delivered included emergency
mechanical assistance, first aid treatment, and general tourist information.
Response times were typically 30
mins or less. This is a fantastic achievement, and shows that road safety is
finally being taken more seriously by everyone.
Ortega Castro, head of the Green
Angels, said that drivers are paying more attention to things like speed
limits, drink riving, use of cell phones and safety belts, and checking their vehicles
more regularly.
And he says local police officers continue to benefit from the new mandatory
safety training programme. Which equips them with all the necessary skills for
traffic management, road safety and accidents.
Pay heed. Things are changing in
Cabo. Make sure you carry your licence and ID at all times. Don’t drink, speed
or use your phone. You are much more likely to be caught.
But if you are driving, and you run into problems - call the Green Angels on 078.
They have bilingual teams, that patrol the highways and toll roads, providing assistance to tourists. And the service is free of charge.
