Early this morning due to a few wind vectors the National
Hurricane Centre upgraded tropical depression TWELVE-E to the status of a
tropical storm, called KAY.
At present Kay is embedded within light steering currents
around a weak ridge over Mexico, and
this pattern is forecast to change little.
Most likely this
means that Kay will keep moving northwestward with a gradual bend to the west
as the cyclones weakens. There is a very small chance that a weak system may
come close to Baja California. But at this stage, it is not thought to be very
realistic.
However, heavy rains are expected in Cabo on Friday and
Saturday.
And just to be on the safe side the harbor master has put the port on
alert –
“Due to the forecast of the evolution and trajectory of this low
pressure system and tropical disturbance, the port of Cabo San Lucas, BCS, goes
into a state of alert. The tropical depression may well affect the port in the
course of the next 24 to 72 hours so everyone should be attentive to all
developments. " warned Captain Martinez Morales.
