A New Mega Development Proposed in Todos Santos Called "Playa Santos"

Todos Santos is a small artist, fishing and agricultural village about 40 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas via Federal Highway 19. Todos Santos was named one of Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) in 2006. A new mega project called “Playa Santos” has been proposed just south of Todos Santos. The project is presented by a Mexican real estate development corporation called MIRA, a subsidiary of the Colorado-based real estate investment firm Black Creek Group. The land acquired by MIRA and Black Creek Group totals 414 hectares (1,025 acres) and spans both the west side of Highway 19 to the coastline, including Punta Lobos beach, and the east side of the highway reaching as far as the new cemetery area of Todos Santos. Though the project is new and development has not yet begun, the sheer size of this mega development has quickly generated both interest and opposition. According to the plan submitted by the developer the proposed project will take 20 years to complete and will be divided into three stages. The finished community will include residences, condominiums, a beach hotel, two additional boutique hotels, a commercial center, a Colorado State University Campus, individual lots and micro-lots, an amphitheater, a beach club, a farm club and green areas. According to the environmental impact statement submitted by the developer, the plan calls for a total of 4,470 residences divided into three areas, each one representing one of the three stages of construction: beach, town and hillside developments...
