The list of
star players taking part in the tournament was announced yesterday afternoon by
the Director of the Mexican Tennis Open, Jose Antonio Fernandez.
Fernandez was quick to point out that all players are
ranked in the top 50 in the world. And he is delighted that Cabo has been able to
attract such high class athletes.
This is the
first time the tournament is to be held in Los Cabos. It will take place from 8
to 13 August, and is headed by the Austrian Dominic Thiem, currently number 8
in the world rankings.
Other famous
names in attendance include: Benoit Paire (number 23), Lucas Pouille (number
30) and Julien Benneteau (number 39 ranking munidal), Bernard Tomic, Feliciano
Lopez, Ivo Karlovic, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Sam Querrey Jeremy Chardy, Albert
Ramos-Vinolas, Marcel Granollers and Nicolas Almagro.
Preparations
for the event are well underway. The courts are almost ready and tests will
begin on July 12.
Secretary of
Tourism Board of Los Cabos, Ruben Reachi, urged everyone in the tourist sector
to rise to the occasion and ensure the event is a huge success. The tournament
is big event for Cabo and it will help put it firmly on the map of destinations
equipped to run big international sporting events.
Reachi also
secured a promise from Tournament Director Fernandez to donate any spare
tickets to the school kids of Los Cabos.
