A meteorite has impacted near La Paz, Mexico, Saturday evening, May 18 at about 4:06 p.m, with an impact so fierce when it fell, that it shook several houses in the vicinity and led some La Paz residents to believe an earthquake had taken place. The strong explosion, caused fire and emergency vehicles to be dispatched to the area almost immediately as residents took to their cell phones and internet to announce the falling catastrophe from space. Local La Paz citizens informed arriving media about the brilliant ball they witnessed zoom across the sky whose descent into their neighbor hood, caused what they initially thought to be a slight earthquake. Local civil protection authorities, as well as state and federal police have secured the area as investigators assess the damage and meteor rock itself. More as the story develops.
