San Jose International Airport - A Quieter December than 2013
December 2014 showed a surprising drop in the number of both
International and Mexican National passengers passing through the San Jose Del
Cabo International Airport (SJD) according to the latest figures from The
Pacific Airport Group (GAP).
In terms of international passengers, there were 191,200 arrivals
but that compared poorly to December 2013 when 221,600 visitors were recorded; a
reduction of 30,400 – a 14% drop.
As for domestic tourism in December 2013 there were 79,200
passengers recorded and in the same period for 2014 there were 77,900 , i.e.
1,300 fewer tourists .
Annually the picture was a little better however it still
showed an overall drop of 3%. Most of the change could be attributed to the
effects of Hurricane Odile and the fact that some resorts remain closed as yet,
however an overall drop of only 3% on the year shows how robust the local tourist
marketplace is when a disaster on that scale can have such a small effect in
total.
Many local businesses are however not even noticing the drop
in numbers: most of the restaurants and bars are full and all of the resorts
and hotels which are open are reporting an “excellent season”.
“I am sold out till almost March” said one well-known city
center hotelier “Cabo is back and we are busier than ever!”
