Anyone who has been to Cabo will
know that peddlers are just part of life in here.
The street vendors are usually
very mild mannered - and don’t really push you too hard for a sale. But the
beach peddlers can be a lot more insistent. And there are a lot more of them.
Amidst pleas to control the numbers
the authorities last week confirmed that
they would be issuing legal permits only to authorised peddlersJust under 700 have been issued,
along with official white uniforms. Making them instantly recognisable.
To avoid a proliferation of
peddlers in any one place, areas like Medano beach will be zoned. Allowing only
a specific number of peddlers per zone. Hopefully this will reduce the haggling,
which can reach fever pitch at peak times on Medano, and other busy beaches.
Of course, it can be annoying, always
being hustled for a sale. But on the other hand, these vendors are just trying
to make a living. And can only do so at certain times of the year. Be kind. A
few trinkets here and there won’t break the bank. But it will put a few dollars
in their pockets. Just make sure you buy from the guys in white and you will be
fine.
