Plans are being developed in La Paz to build an aquarium and sea museum with a marine research centre bolted on. Estimated costs for the project are around 800 million pesos. It is likely to be built in the Malecon district of the city - within easy access to the beach and other tourist activities.
Rodrigo Guerrero Rivas, Secretary of Economic Development, Environment and Natural Resources , hopes the joint project will "benefit the marine scientific research and the tourist development of the municipality".
The major investors in the project are expected to be National Polytechnic Institute ( IPN ) and the National Council of Science and Technology ( CONACYT ). Rivas confirmed that meetings with both organisations will be taking place this Friday, 29 January. Rivas is optimistic that the project will go ahead. A definitive decision is expected next week.
