Date Published:

Official NOHH forecasts indicate that Tropical Storm Newton will turn into a hurricane by Tuesday.

The government has issued a hurricane warning that includes Cabo. And it is likely to affect all parts of Baja California Sur.

At present Newton is about 320 miles south east of Cabo, with maximum sustained winds of approx 60m/h. But gusts are strengthening.

Newton is predicted to turn north /northwest by Tuesday and hurricane conditions are expected to reach the coast of  Baja California Sur by Tuesday morning as it moves further in a NW trajectory.

Winds are expected to first reach tropical storm strength by late tonight.

Rain of between 5-10 inches is also highly likely. Strong swells will increase across the southern and central portions of the Baja California peninsula today and Tuesday. These swells are likely to cause life- threatening surf and rip current conditions.

Everyone is urged to proceed with caution and pay close attention to all  safety warnings.
