Blanca has now been officially confirmed as a Category 1
Hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85mph.
The good news is that at this time the storm has effectively
stalled and is making no forward progress; however the bad news is that it is
forecast by the National Hurricane Center to increase in strength through Thursday
and become a major hurricane plus accelerate north northwestwards.
Current projections show a potential landfall in Baja somewhere
north of Los Cabos on Sunday afternoon.
History (and probability) suggest that the storm could veer
off and weaken as it approaches (there is NO suggestion that this could be
another Odile) but on current trajectory this seems set to at least deliver
some rain and heavy swells.
At this time there are no warnings issued for Baja Sur
however the next 3 days will be critical and folks should be aware of this
storm, take sensible measures and keep themselves informed.
We will as ever keep a regular update on this and all storms
in the region.
