The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) reported
today that it had rescued another Humpback whale in the waters of Los Cabos.
The Humpback became entangled in fishing gear in the
vicinity of San José del Cabo. The operation to free the mammal was a joint
effort by the Navy (SEMAR), the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas
(CONANP), the Marine Protection Fund (FONMAR) Resources, and Cabo Expeditions.
The Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is also listed
NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, under the status of "subject to special
protection" .
