The trend for Mexican craft beer is increasing across Baja Sur with bars in La Paz and Los Cabos.
The popular tavern Beer Box in La Paz stocks a staggering 80 different beers, 85% of which are Mexican.
Owner, Guillermo Garcia Peñaranda, says the industry has been going from strength to strength since 2012 when new brewing legislation helped create a space in the market for small craft breweries. "Here in La Paz, approximately 10% of the beer drinking population prefer craft beer," he said.
And the story is similar in Los Cabos, where Baja Brewing and Cervezeria de Ramuri have both caught on as local favourites.
Baja
Brewing began in 2006, distributing 8 locally brewed draft beers to a
bunch of local restaurants. It was hugely popular almost immediately.
They now have 5 bottled beers -including Baja Blond and Cabotella - 3
cantinas, distribute in Mexico, and have even launched in the states.
Baja
beer is widely sold all over Los Cabos. Definitely worth a try -
check out their rooftop cantina or any one of the well stocked local
bars.

A bit newer on the craft beer scene in Los Cabos is Cervezeria de Ramuri. A partnership between a local restauranteur, Edith Jiminez, and a Tijuana-based craft brew specialists.

Cerveceria Ramuri combines a restaurant, bar, microbrewing facilities and a rooftop garden in downtown Cabo San Lucas. A fab location, fab food, and a fab list of wonderfully named beers - Diablo Blanco, Lagrimas Negras to name just two. A must if you are in town.
