Is Water in Cabo Safe for Drinking?

“Is water in Cabo safe to drink from the tap or filter?” – Almost everyone coming to Cabo. For the longest of time, dating back to the 1970's, 80's and 90's, one of the most commonly asked questions about Mexico has been whether the country's tap water was safe. American, Canadian and European concerns on whether the water in Mexico was safe enough to use while brushing their teeth or more specifically; if the water was safe enough to drink. That all important health issue regarding the quality of tap water in Cabo San Lucas is still being questioned even as the country of Mexico and the cities of San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo have made significant strides in improving the quality of water consumed by the families of this friendly community and the all important visitors to this great vacation, tourist-dependent resort of Baja California Sur. At an October 15-19, 2012 ANEAS Convention and Expo in Queretero, Mexico, General Director of the System Operator Municipal Water and Waste Water of San Lucas (OOMSAPAS) Jose Manuel Curiel Castro received the National Award for Innovation Processes in Water and Sanitation (PISAPyS), which is given annually by ANEAS (National Association of Water and Sanitation of Mexico) and IMTA, the Mexican Institute of Water Technology to the city which has improved the quality of water in their area. ''The award is presented to organizations who optimize their water and sanitation processes by implementing new technologies or processes,'' said Martinez Polioptro Austria, Director of IMTA. San Lucas OOMSAPAS seized the opportunity to win the award by implementing a sewage pipe network at the center of the city's population; using the water cycle and extracting from it---reusable water for the irrigation of Cabo's popular golf courses and gardening via a project called, ''Purple Line''....
