Dead whales on beach near Cabo

Date Published:

Stranding of 7 whales on as Los Canelones beach in Mulelge...

Very sadly fisherman from Bahia Tortugas yesterday reported the finding of 7 dead whales on Los Canelones beach – between El Compito and Malarrimo fishing fields.

The  cause of death has not yet been established. But It may have due to predatory sharks, or from fishing nets. Or neither.

Right now, nothings is clear until PROFECA (the environmental protection agency) carry out a full autopsy.

The whales are of a small, and it is thought they are dwarf kogia species -  alsp called dwarf sperm whales.. Again, this has not yet been officially confirmed.

We will keep you posted on the autopsy results. But this type of small whale is not often seen at sea and most information comes from the study of stranded carcasses...
