Cruises to Cabo increasing

Date Published:

Looks like cruises are on the increase in Cabo.

So far this year, 103 cruise ships have landed 230 000 tourists in Cabo. And lots more are on the way -with 100 more ships scheduled to arrive before the end of the year.

A total of 8 are due throughout August -  so long as there are no serious storms. Last week cruise ship Carnival Miracle had to delay its arrival in Cabo by 3 days due to tropical storm Javier. Passengers were delighted that it was finally able to dock but disappointed that they lost some days in Cabo -

“It’s great that we were actually able to get here despite the rain – because we’ve heard that we will find the best beaches here and can’t wait to see them.”

"For my family, the idea of not being able to stay another few days in Cabo San Lucas was not great, but security comes first, and we could not take the risk if the weather was not right".

As high season approaches many more cruise ships will appear. Scheduled arrivals from September to November are between 20-36 per month. With a bumper day on 29th November when 5 ships will be arriving on the same day.

Clearly all this will be a huge boost to the local economy. And as Hector Montaño Cota, Port Administration Manager in Cabo, points out - these numbers indicate a 10% increase in the number of arrivals for 2016.

And with the 251 arrivals already confirmed for 2017 (making a 21% increase on this year) it looks like cruise ships will continue to play an important part in Cabo’s tourist industry.

  • Taylor: “It’s great that we were actually able to get here despite the rain – because we’ve heard that we will find the best beaches here in Cabo and we can’t wait to see them.”

  • Troy: “I was delighted we were able to be here in Cabo despite the storm, and it didn’t put us off wanting to get to know this beautiful place”.

  • Mr. McSorley:”For my family, the idea of not being able to stay another few days in Cabo San Lucas was not great, but security comes first, and we could not take the risk if the weather was not right".

  • John: “Although we missed a day of sightseeing due to Javier, it didn’t put me off wanting to be here in Cabo.”

  • Gloria: It’s not the first time that I have been here in Cabo. And although I would loved to have stayed longer, the weather meant we had to cut things a bit shorter.”

  • Jim: “ Just being here has given me so much joy – thank goodness Javier wasn’t too serious a storm and we were able to be here safely.”
