President of the Mexican Federation of Surfing, Luis
Skeen, yesterday proclaimed Los Cabos Open of Surf 2016 a huge success and described the final as incredible.
This is just the fourth time the championship has been
run in Cabo but Skeen claims it is already a firm favorite amongst competitors
- “they love the destination and everything about it - the hotels, the restaurants,
all the facilities and most of all the surf.”
The lucky winners in the junior category were: Griffin
Colapinto, California, in the category Jr. Pro Men; in the women, Sophie
McCullon of Australia.
And in first place in senior category, QS 6000 points in
the world championship circuit, was Bronte Macaulay of Australia with Mimi
Barona of Ecuador in second place. (Check out the World Surf League for full

Genaro Ruiz, the state secretary for Tourism said - “Events
like Los Cabos Open of Surfing continues to consolidate and internationalise the
image of Baja California Sur as the best destination in Mexico, for high impact, top level sporting tournaments.
"
He also highlighted the
economic benefits the tournament brought which saw hotels with 92% occupancy. A
great spin off for local businesses and tourism providers.
