One of the highlights of any trip to Los Cabos over the
winter months is the annual Gray whale migration. The “season” officially
starts December 15th…but the whales don’t know that and this year in
particular they have been showing up regularly since early November.
Humpback whales have also been seen in good numbers since
October and these are not to be missed because of their habit of tail slapping
and breaching, sometimes with the entire animal out of the water. Now that is a
sight that will stay with you for a very long time!
Whale Watch Cabo is currently assisting the Los Cabos Whale
Conservation Society in the photo identification of as many individual Humpback
Whales as possible, to assist in the understanding of the Eastern Pacific
Humpback Population and further assist Governments in the continuing protection
of the Humpback Whale.
The annual migration of the Gray whales are the longest of
any mammal in the world and so represent a unique opportunity for tourists to
see a genuine wildlife spectacle. Cabo San Lucas has some of the most
experienced whale watching operators in the world, many with qualified marine
biologists as your guide who can help to make the experience completely unique
with their knowledge of the animals and their lifestyles.
We have compiled an extensive section on whale watching here
on iTravel-Cabo.com and we also have links to the major whale-watching tour
operators in the area.
If you don’t want to take a tour, simply take a walk along
the beach by Pedregal or further up the coast and you are 99% certain to see
many of these beautiful animals cruising along the shoreline on their way into
the Sea of Cortez.
As if Cabo wasn’t special enough, in December it becomes a
place of magic.
