With the hurricane
season fast approaching, and the ravages of Odile not quite yet a distant
memory, Cabo’s carefully planned protocols are ready for action at all levels.
The Government
and the National Public Safety Commission issued a joint statement confirming that
30 cyclonic events are expected on both coasts of the Baja peninsula – 13 in the
Atlantic Ocean and 17 in the Pacific. By closely co-ordinating the preventive
strategies of government departments they aim to generate a culture of
prevention throughout Baja Califormia Sur.
As always
national protocols are being followed including the location of shelters, review
of warning systems and drills, and dredging of streams. Citizens are urged to be
vigilant and well informed - to physically protect themselves and safeguard their
property as far as possible.
Similarly, the
Ministry of Tourism is taking an equally serious approach. In 2014 hurricane
Odile damaged 98% of the hotel infrastructure. With the damages finally
repaired and tourist rates now steadily rising, the industry is determined to
avoid a similar situation.
Among the
main measures taken by hoteliers has been to install specially prepared
windows, build shelters for tourists, and remove any dangerous items on their outdoor
premises.
If you find yourself
in Cabo during hurricane season please be sure to follow all safety protocols
issued by your hotel.
