Blue flag beaches at Cabo

Date Published:

In perfect time for the summer season Chileno, Palmillo and Santa Maria beaches have all been reawarded blue flag status.  The flags are hugely important for Cabo as a tourist destination and indicates the beaches have high levels of cleanliness, safety and  environmental management.

Blue Flags are awarded for only one season at a time. If the criteria are not fulfilled during the season or the conditions change, the Blue Flag may be withdrawn.

Beaches are awarded the Blue Flag based status based on compliance with 33 criteria covering 4 key areas - environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, safety and services.

Once again the success is down to the hard work of Zofemat and public investment of 3.5 million pesos. The funds will be used to provide palapa umbrellas, garbage containers, trucks and equipment for staff, who work tirelessly to keep the beaches clean.

An important addition this season is the amphibious chair for the disabled that has been installed in Chileno Beach. And the city government has already indicated their intention to have a chair in each certified beach as soon as possible.
