Bisbee Black & Blue 2013 Recap And Results

The 33rd edition of the Bisbee's Black & Blue Marlin Tournament has come and gone. This tournament is always the most anticipated sportfishing event of the year because so much prize money is handed out and because it draws the world's best talent. This year did nothing to disappoint. Teams came from all over the world, including five teams from Japan, two of which finished in the money. This year also saw the first sailboat in Black & Blue history, and they took home money in the release division. There were five qualifying marlin caught and lots of last minute drama. History was made as not only was the tournament won by a lady angler for the first time ever, but women took both first and second place. The first place marlin was also the largest ever caught by a woman in Bisbee's history. Nearly $2.9 million dollars in prize money was paid out, much of it to the top two women, but there was also a large check given to a team that was not one of the top finishers. Before the tournament even began there was excitement in the air. On the afternoon before the opening ceremony, a massive 566 pound marlin was caught by a charter boat and weighed on the marina scale. Hopes were high as sign-ins commenced and the Bisbee officially began. The first day was a bit slow and no qualifying fish were caught, but the drama was about to intensify. Three qualifying fish were caught on day two including a massive 525 pound blue marlin boated by Martha McNabb of Team Retriever. That fish gave her the lead, and a chance to be the first woman ever to win the Black & Blue...
