Albino whale spotted in BCS

Date Published:

This season’s whale watching in Baja California Sur has just got even more exciting with the rare sighting this week of an albino whale.

The whale was spotted in Laguna Ojo de Liebre during the sixth count of the season in the Biosphere Reserve El Vizcaino.

Albino whales are thought to be extremely rare and until recently there has only ever been 4 sightings worldwide. And these had been in Australia of the now famous male humpback albino whale born in 1986, known as "Migaloo.

More recently there have been sightings of white albino whales off the coast in Chile, Ecuador and South Africa.
