Well known local activist and
documentary film maker, Erendira Padilla Valle, has made an impassioned plea
for financial support, via crowdfunding, to help free sea lions entangled in fishing
nets in the National Park Archipiélago Espíritu Santo.
After seeing so many injured and
entangled sea lions as they go searching for food Valle decided to raise money
to buy the necessary rescue and clean up equipment. Only $1200 US is needed to get
the campaign properly started. The hope is that in time a permanent team will
be put in place to manage this problem.
The situation has already been
recognised by the authorities. And a training course on how to free the sea lions
has already taken place.
"In November last year, thanks to the
support of people interested in the welfare of the animals in the sea, a
training course was held for the responsible authorities on how to implement a
new methodology that facilitates the rescue of injured sea lions, using tranquilizers
to allow medical intervention, " said Padilla Valle.
The clean up campaign will take
place from the 25 to 30 April, in the National Park Archipiélago Espíritu Santo.
The campaign only needs $1200 US
to get started. To learn more about it check, or to make a small donation,
