With the majority of our boats competing in the 2nd day of the Bisbees Offshore Tournament and the Bisbees Black & Blue Tournament (Worlds Richest Tournament) right around the corner things in Cabo are booming with excitement!
Unfortunately, the 2nd day was not as exciting for and of the RedRum Teams that participated in the Bisbees Offshore but it sure wasn’t from lack of effort. The anglers, captains, mates and family members of each team put everything they had into a tough 2 days of fishing! Much fun was had by all as the 2nd day came to an end…
While the tournaments boats were doing their thing on Sunday, TantRum, ReelRum and RumRunnin were out catching fish!! Captain Juan on TantRum Caught and Released a Striped Marlin while fishing with David Wesel and his buddy Roger Wright! Our great buddy and Florida angler Donald Palczewski came down for his 3rd trip this year to fish with Jesus/Jesus on RumRunnin and alone Caught and Released a Sailfish and boated 6 Yellowfin! It’s always a pleasure having Donald around; you never know what he is going to do or say when he is in our office but it’s always entertaining!! We love you Mr. P! Dick Janita fished his 2nd day with RedRum aboard ReelRum and Caught and Released a pair of Sailfish as well as a pair of Stripe Marlin! Bet he’s sore after those 4 fights!
Once Monday came around it was business as usual for the RedRum crews and boats. Although the boys that fished the tournament put in especially long and hard working hours they reported to duty Monday ready to fish! The passion our crews carry for their job is prevalent and you can really tell that our crews love what they do! We are lucky to have each and every one of them! Captain Juan kept his consistency and Caught and Released a Striped Marlin while fishing with Jeff French. Mel McIntire and Daniel Smith fished with Ramon and Julian and Caught and Released a Striped Marlin as well. The Janita party continued their multi-day charters with us. This time aboard RedRum with Captain Oscar. They Caught and Released a pair of Striped Marlin landed 6 1/2 Yellowfin. The 1/2 Yellowfin came when a shark decided to snack on one of the Tuna as it was being reeled to the boat! Ron Conrad also Caught and Released a Striped Marlin aboard RumRunnin. Jim Norman and his party caught “mucho Tuna” according to my notes of the day! Not sure exactly but it must have been a lot, assuming their limit was reached while fishing with Alex and Charly on El Nuevo. 19′s Toy fished a half-day charter with Trey Taparauskas and his party. They caught and released a Striped Marlin during their quick trip out with Captain Noe, as Gaba took a day off from fishing after the tournament! The Council party rallied for one more day of fishing on Top Guna and got into some Yellowfin Tuna as well as releasing a Striped Marlin.
“Team Texas” highlighted Tuesdays fishing! They were able to Catch & Release 3 Sailfish. One of the Sailfish that angler Larry Gonzales brought to the boat was measured at 108″!! Captain Gaba was back at it after a restful day off and hosted the Miller Party. They were glad they caught Gaba after a days rest because he was ready to put them on the fish!! They ended their day with 3 Striped Marlin all of which were released! Corey Nuttall and amigos Caught & Released 1 Striped Marlin and 1 Sailfish while fishing with Omar and Oscar on RedRum. Kyle, Kayla and Maureen Orvik had a great time fishing on ReelRum. The trio boated a pair of Dorado for dinner and in between catches were able to Release 2 Striped Marlin. The first Marlin weighed an estimated 150 lb and the 2nd was close to 140#! Great job! RumRunnin landed a Black Marlin that was able to be released as well as a Striped Marlin while fishing with Ron Conrad. Dick Janita fished his final day with RedRum, this time aboard TantRum and added 2 more Striped Marlin to his belt as well as a Dorado!
The 21st kicked-off the 2015 Bisbees Black & Blue Tournament. For those that don’t know about this tournament it is the “richest tournament” in the world as past winners have won millions, yes millions of dollars during this tournament. We had 7 boats entered in the tournament: RedRum, El Nuevo, 19′s Toy, Never Give Up, Black Betty*, Adrenaline and Colleen’s Magic. With over 100 boats entered there was a lot of competition out there and the boats worked hard. The largest fish weighed in on day 1 was just over the 300# range by a fellow A-Dock boat Whata Journey.
*The unfortunate loss of Black Betty during the tournament came at a tough time and she will definitely be missed by all that knew her and those that anticipated meeting her. Nonetheless, much respect to RedRum owner, Ryan, Captain TJ Dobson and First Mate Jerry Bribiesca on making sure their clients were safe and keeping their cool during such an unforeseeable event. For more information on this please refer to our Facebook postings and we thank you everyone for their kind words and attention during this time.
While the tournament was going on ReelRum, TantRum Peleador and RumRunnin had business of their own to take care of! Shannon Weick brought Jon Ritchie along with her for a trip on TantRum and combined they were able to Catch and Release a Striped Marlin. Captain Ramon went to work landing 1 Dorado 6 Yellowfin all within the 30#+ class range with solo angler Stephen Henson. Ben Studebaker landed a nice Dorado on Peleador and Walter McSpadden Caught and Released a Striped Marlin aboard RumRunnin to finish up the day!
All teams were at it again for day 2 including Team Black Betty who found themselves on Maybe Manana, thanks to our good friend Brad for your assistance. No reported fish were weighed in on the 2nd Day of the Bisbees Black & Blue Tournament which would sure make for an interesting 3rd and final day!
Again, TantRum, ReelRum and RumRunnin headed out as usual. Captain Juan and Captain Ramon took the Selecky Group out, 4 members loaded up on ReelRum and 4 on TantRum. Combined the group caught and released a Striped Marlin and caught 7 Yellowfin Tuna! Great group effort!! Jesus/Jesus combo took Travis and Brandy Smith out on an unforgettable trip! RumRunnin loaded up with 8 Yellowfin, 1 Wahoo and 1 Striped Marlin that was an estimated 200#!
The same three boats headed out on Friday while the others were off trying to bring home the big one! TantRum caught a nice Dorado with Carlos Jaramillo. Todd, Danece and Karen Goodman fished with Captain Omar and ReelRum and Caught & Released a Striped Marlin and bagged a Dorado. Identical results were had on RumRunnin today too!
Although none of the RedRum Teams made the podium this year at the Bisbees it was definitely a great time had by all and one of the most special and memorable parts of this tournament was watching how not only the RedRum family rallied around after losing Black Betty but how the entire Cabo San Lucas fishing community and so many of you back home pulled for us. We at RedRum sincerely thank you.
Saturday TantRum stayed behind with some needed mechanical attention but all other boats headed out for a nice day on the water! 19′s Toy led the pack today with 1 Striped Marlin released, 1 Dorado boated and 3 Yellowfin added to their bag! Great job Garrett Houdmann and TEAM!! Brandon and Vince Keiser fished aboard ReelRum and Caught and Released a Striped Marlin while my buddies from back home “Chacho” and Joe Martinez Caught and Released a Sailfish and a Striped Marlin on their first day out on the water with us. It was great seeing you guys, I enjoyed the company and it was great to see people from back home!
With one more tournament (WON Tuna Jackpot) left for the season, a tournament in which all RedRum boats plus a plethora more representing TEAM REDRUM we are keeping our spirits up and looking forward to great results. We’ve got the STRONGEST TEAM in Cabo and the best fans and supporters around. We will do our best to make you proud
