This week was a mix, with some days being very good for
striped marlin, other days seeing yellowfin tuna, and still other days produced
wahoo or even yellowtail. We had an increase up to 30% of boats catching
billfish this week, most of these being striped marlin out at the Cabrillo
seamount. The Pisces Tracy Ann had a successful day for some anglers visiting
from Austin, Texas. They managed to catch and release four striped marlin around
130-150lbs on caballito live bait, and got a nice 40lbs wahoo also at the
Cabrillo seamount. The Pisces Ruthless managed a nearly identical day, however
they had three striped marlin caught and released and a very nice 60lbs wahoo
landed on a green/yellow lure at the Cabrillo seamount for some anglers out of
California. The Pisces Tag Team switched things up a bit and had three striped
marlin caught and released as well as twelve yellowfin tuna for some anglers
from Costa Mesa, California.
As far as odd catches go, the Pisces C Rod caught and
released a 220lbs hammerhead shark on caballito live bait off of San Jose, as
well as a 130lbs striped marlin. Representative of a good inshore day was the
Pisces Adriana that landed three grouper near 10lbs each on caballito, as well
as thirteen yellowtail from 5 to 25lbs. All of this on the Pacific side just
off of Rancho Las Margaritas for an angler from Pella, Iowa.
