catches!
Amigos –
Thank you for visiting our fishing report page. I am happy to report that
fishing has been very good for the last few weeks. We have had an outstanding
Dorado bite, a very good off and on Marlin bite and have seen a decent number
of smaller Yellow Fin Tuna and Wahoo. As sea temps continue to drop, we expect
good fishing for the next couple of weeks.
Marlin – We
saw an off and on Striped Marlin bite again with full day boats doing best
here. The Marlin have been very close to Lands End from the Arch to Migrino
less than a mile offshore. The bite has been changing with cooler waters and
many fished have been landed at the 80 ft mark by using down riggers or
weighted live bait. Further off shore we saw some bigger Blues, but those fish
have been dropping in numbers. The waters in the Sea of Cortez have been
hampered by higher winds and not much activity east this last week. Those boats
on full day charters did better with Marlin from Golden to Finger Banks.

Tuna – We
have seen a good number of smaller Tuna running around our waters. Most are in
the 8 to 15 pound range, biting on live bait and smaller feathers. We had one
day last week where there was a large school right off the arch and boats were
picking off one after another. Bigger Tuna seemed to scatter further offshore
and higher winds in the Sea of Cortez made fishing tough. It is the time of
year where hunting for Tuna is a hit and miss game with a little luck needed in
the process due to dropping water temps.
Dorado – The
Dorado bite has been very, very good amigos. We participated in the 3rd Annual
Orsan Dorado Tournament this weekend along with over 100 other boats. Almost
all boats had multiple Dorado and the largest being a 29.6 pounder. We weighed
a decent 18.5 pound Mahi but had 3 others in the 10 to 15 pound range. We were
fishing dead Ballyoo, petroleros and live mackerel. It didn’t really seem to
matter though, the fish are almost everywhere from Solmar to Todos Santos along
the Pacific coast. Some boats had over
20 fish strike as large schools were running all weekend.

Wahoo – The
Wahoo bite has been steady. Not huge
numbers but we see these fish hit the decks almost everyday. The fish have been
craving Ballyhoo and those boats with down riggers have had success dropping to
80-100ft on a higher speed troll. Earlier this month we saw a good bite in the
Sea of Cortez near Cabeza de Ballena, but with higher winds this week, most
boats chose to head west. Another species that are hit and miss at the moment,
but worth the effort when landed.
Other
Species – We saw a large number of fish like Pompano, Sierra Mackerel, Trigger
Fish, Red Snapper as colder waters started to creep in this week. Panga and
bottom fishing are starting to heat up!
