Amigos – We
started the week with no fishing on Monday due to Tropical Storm Javier that
shut down port on August 8th. Luckily the storm was much weaker than expected
as it reached Cabo San Lucas and all we saw was lots of rain. By Tuesday we had
boats in the water!
Although the
storm missed us it did bring plenty of cold water and mixed seas. We were able
to land some Striped Marlin, but not much else was biting. As you can see
below, waters weren’t ideal with no warm water to be found. Those boats that
were able to head out for full 8 hour days, had much better results near
Herradura to the 95 Bank.
As the week
progressed we had lots of Bill Fish with boats landing multiples including the
Whata Journey going 3 for 3 in 5 hours! We also saw the return of some decent
Yellow Fin Tuna and a couple Dorado. As you can see below, water was still
cooler than ideal and finding good fishing was a challenge. Our crews still had
a 81% success rate overall.
The good
news…..going into Monday we saw the warm water creeping in from the East which
should lead into a very good week. It looks like the Sea of Cortez will be the
place to be from Punta Gorda to the 1150 Bank. If you are looking for some
action, looks like the next few days will be ideal…Let’s go!
