Bad Medicine
Cabo Fishing Report September 2016
As summer
rolls along here at Land's End, the fishing continues to amaze everyone.
Comments such as "This is how it was in the good old days" are common
on the docks. The blue marlin bite has been spectacular. Many days with 2-3
shots at blues are being had. Water temps are in the low 80's and the fish have
been very aggressive. Nothing real huge is being caught so far, but lots of
solid 180-250 lb line screamers are slamming trolled lures, mainly on the Sea
of Cortez side. The Bad Medicine has had a few days with double blue marlin
bites, and the fishing shows no sign of slowing down.
The
yellowfin tuna bite has also been record breaking, with lots of 200 lb fish
being brought to the scales and it seems 80-120 lb yellowfins are almost
becoming common. The bite has been more on the Pacific, but it seems schools of
fat tuna may be found almost anywhere these days. Our killer method has been
the kite with a plastic flying fish below, but all methods have been working.
We did a 220 lb yellowfin in mid-August that came three feet out of the water
to attack the dangling flying fish…amazing.
The dorado
have not really shown yet, but we know they will be on their way soon. The
striped marlin, even though they normally move north this time of year, are
still plentiful also. We have been tossing bait on light tackle when they come
up on trolled lures mostly. Sailfish are also showing and will get more
plentiful as the fall draws near.
All in all,
this summer has been the best on record, and the fall tournament season will be
here before we realize. Seems the entire world is talking about Cabo. Come down
and see for yourself!
Thanks and
we look forward to getting you on the water!
